# \[1] 22 - Hazing

**Offense Classification: Misdemeanor / Felony&#x20;*****(Depending on severity)***

**Definition:**

Hazing occurs when an individual **forces, pressures, or coerces another person to engage in humiliating, dangerous, or unlawful activities as part of an initiation or group membership**.

**Elements of the Crime:**

* The suspect **forced or coerced the victim** to participate in activities.
* The victim’s **physical or emotional safety was put at risk**.
* The suspect’s actions were **intentional and not part of a lawful activity**.

**Penalties:**

* **Jail Time:** Up to 6 months *(Misdemeanor)*, up to 5 years *(Felony, if serious injury occurred)*
* **Fine:** Up to $5,000
* **Additional Consequences:** Community service, mandatory education on hazing laws

* **\[1] 9 - Manslaughter (Involuntary)** *(If the hazing resulted in an accidental death.)*
