# \[1] 23 - Torture

**Offense Classification: Felony**

**Definition:**

Torture occurs when an individual **inflicts extreme physical or psychological pain and suffering** upon another person for **intimidation, coercion, or sadistic pleasure**.

**Elements of the Crime:**

* The suspect **intentionally inflicted extreme suffering**.
* The act was **prolonged or excessively cruel**.
* The act was **not justified** (e.g., not lawful interrogation).

**Penalties:**

* **Jail Time:** Life imprisonment
* **Fine:** Up to $100,000
* **Additional Consequences:** No chance of parole in extreme cases, potential international legal action
