# \[1] 4 - Aggravated Assault

**Offense Classification: Felony**

**Definition:**

Aggravated Assault occurs when an individual **intentionally causes serious bodily harm** to another person, or commits an assault under **aggravating circumstances**, such as against a vulnerable person or with extreme recklessness.

**Elements of the Crime:**

* The suspect **intended to cause** serious physical injury.
* The assault involved **prolonged or excessive violence**.
* The victim was **a vulnerable individual** (e.g., elderly, disabled, minor).
* The act was **not justified** (e.g., not self-defense).

**Penalties:**

* **Jail Time:** Up to 30 months
* **Fine:** $10,000
* **Additional Consequences:** Potential parole restrictions, court-mandated anger management
