# \[3] 12 - Rioting & Civil Disorder

**Offense Classification: Felony**

**Definition:**

Rioting & Civil Disorder occurs when an individual **actively participates in a large, violent group event** that results in **property destruction, personal injury, or significant public disruption.**

**Elements of the Crime:**

* The suspect **actively participated in a violent riot.**
* The riot resulted in **property damage, injuries, or disruption to public services.**
* The act was **not justified** (e.g., not a lawful protest or peaceful assembly).

**Penalties:**

* **Jail Time:** 5 to 20 years
* **Fine:** Up to $50,000
* **Additional Consequences:** Restitution to victims, enhanced penalties if government buildings were targeted
