# \[3] 20 - Interfering with Public Services

**Offense Classification: Felony**

**Definition:**

Interfering with Public Services occurs when an individual **intentionally disrupts, damages, or disables essential services**, such as **emergency response systems, public utilities, or government communication networks.**

**Elements of the Crime:**

* The suspect **intentionally disrupted or disabled public services.**
* The disruption affected **emergency response, utilities, or government operations.**
* The act was **not justified** (e.g., not part of authorized maintenance or repairs).

**Penalties:**

* **Jail Time:** 5 to 15 years
* **Fine:** Up to $75,000
* **Additional Consequences:** Federal charges if critical infrastructure was impacted, restitution for service disruptions
