# \[3] 24 - Unlawful Use of Emergency Services

**Offense Classification: Misdemeanor / Felony&#x20;*****(Depending on severity)***

**Definition:**

Unlawful Use of Emergency Services occurs when an individual **intentionally misuses emergency response systems**, such as **making prank 911 calls, filing false emergencies, or disrupting public safety dispatches.**

**Elements of the Crime:**

* The suspect **intentionally used emergency services** for a false purpose.
* The act caused **wasted resources, delays, or confusion.**
* The act was **not justified** (e.g., not a legitimate emergency or misunderstanding).

**Classification & Penalties:**

* **Misdemeanor:** *(If the misuse caused minimal disruption.)*
  * **Jail Time:** Up to 6 months
  * **Fine:** Up to $2,500
* **Felony:** *(If the misuse caused harm, wasted significant resources, or endangered lives.)*
  * **Jail Time:** 3 to 10 years
  * **Fine:** Up to $25,000
  * **Additional Consequences:** Mandatory restitution, possible suspension of communication privileges
