# \[3] 25 - Violating a Court Order

**Offense Classification: Misdemeanor / Felony&#x20;*****(Depending on the nature of the violation)***

**Definition:**

Violating a Court Order occurs when an individual **intentionally disobeys the conditions of a lawful court directive,** such as **restraining orders, probation terms, or bail conditions.**

**Elements of the Crime:**

* The suspect **was subject to a court order.**
* The suspect **knowingly violated the terms of the order.**
* The violation caused **harm, risk, or disruption to the intended purpose of the order.**

**Classification & Penalties:**

* **Misdemeanor:** *(If the violation was minor or caused minimal harm.)*
  * **Jail Time:** Up to 6 months
  * **Fine:** Up to $2,500
* **Felony:** *(If the violation involved harm, repeat offenses, or major disruption.)*
  * **Jail Time:** 3 to 10 years
  * **Fine:** Up to $25,000
  * **Additional Consequences:** Extended probation terms, revocation of bail, additional protective orders
