# \[6] 12 - Driving Without Headlights or Taillights

**Offense Classification:** **Infraction**

#### **Definition:**

This violation occurs when a motor vehicle is **operated without functional headlights, taillights, or required illumination during periods of darkness, poor visibility, or inclement weather**.

#### **Elements of the Crime:**

* The driver was **operating the vehicle in low-light conditions or during nighttime hours**.
* One or more **required lights (headlights, taillights, or brake lights)** were non-functional or not in use.
* The issue **presented a hazard to other drivers or pedestrians**.

#### **Penalties:**

**Infraction:**

* **Fine:** $250
* **Fix-It Ticket:** May be reduced or dismissed upon proof of repair
