# \[6] 15 - Modified Exhaust or Noise Violation

**Offense Classification:** **Infraction**

#### **Definition:**

This offense occurs when a motor vehicle is **operated with a modified or defective exhaust system that produces excessive noise**, in violation of local or state noise ordinances. Includes muffler deletes, straight pipes, or unlawful aftermarket kits.

#### **Elements of the Crime:**

* The vehicle was **operated on public roadways**.
* The exhaust system was **altered to be louder than legal thresholds**.
* The noise level **caused public disturbance or violated local noise ordinances**.

#### **Penalties:**

**Infraction:**

* **Fine:** $350
* **Fix-It Ticket:** May be resolved with proof of compliance
* **Vehicle Inspection Order:** May be issued
