# \[7] 14 - Defacing Serial Numbers on a Firearm

**Offense Classification:** **Felony**

#### **Definition:**

This offense involves the **removal, alteration, or destruction of a firearm’s serial number**, with intent to conceal its origin or ownership. Such acts are commonly linked to trafficking or concealment of stolen firearms.

#### **Elements of the Crime:**

* The individual **altered, removed, or obscured** the serial number on a firearm.
* The intent was to **conceal the weapon’s identity or origins**.
* The firearm was in the suspect’s **possession, control, or used in a criminal act**.
