# \[9] 4 - Poaching

**Definition**

Poaching is the act of **illegally hunting, trapping, or fishing wildlife** in ways that **pose serious threats to conservation and species protection**. This includes:

* **Taking protected or endangered species**, regardless of permits or seasons.
* **Using illegal weapons or methods** to hunt or fish, including:
  * **Explosives, poisons, snares, or spotlighting**.
  * **Automatic or suppressed firearms** in hunting.
  * **Dynamite or netting** in fishing.
* **Engaging in large-scale illegal wildlife trafficking**, such as selling black-market animal parts.
* **Knowingly violating multiple wildlife laws** for financial or personal gain.

**Legal Consequences**

* **Repeat or large-scale violations** may result in **hunting and fishing bans, asset seizures, and felony-level legal action**.

Poaching is considered a **major offense** due to its impact on **wildlife conservation**. Hunters and fishers must adhere to **all seasonal, species, and method regulations** to avoid **severe penalties**.
